Mecca On Main Website

I sorely neglected this blog once we launched Mecca on Main. I hope you will stop over and be a part of the excitement. This has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life and I love sharing it with anyone who will listen and wants to join in.

When you get to the website, take some time to read the newsletters, look at the gallery of photos, check out our classes. If you would like to be added to our email list so you get newsletters, shoot me an email meccaonmain@gmail.com and I'll proudly add you.

Your early interest and encouragement as " blogger followers " spurred me on to make this dream a reality. Please accept my gratitude for caring so much.

Painting and Sketching Workshop

Painting and Sketching for Personal Enjoyment
A half–day sketch and watercolor workshop

Date: Saturday, April 18, 2009
Place: Mecca on Main, 210 South Main Street, Aubrey, TX
Time: 10 am to 1 pm
Tuition: $20 to “Mecca on Main: is requested at time of workshop.
Instructor / Facilitator: Michael Borne, professional architect and watercolorist, best known as Carolyn’s husband
http://home.att.net/~mborne/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html

Lesson Plan: “Simple architectural shapes: How to sketch them / How to paint them”

Recommended Age Group: Adults and teens 16 and older, beginners and advanced.

Supplies: Each student provides his/her own supplies. Some supplies will be available for individual use. The more experienced participant should use whatever current supplies he/she is used to.
Recommended Supply List:
􀂃Paper: 140# watercolor paper in small sizes: 9” x 12” to 11” x 15” size. Sketch book for pencil sketching and notes, 9” x 12” or smaller. Watercolor pads or blocks are good.
􀂃Soft pencils – HB or 2B or No. 2 pencils and an eraser. A kneaded eraser works well.
􀂃Watercolor brushes: Synthetic nylon, either white or gold. Both flats and rounds are good. Recommendations are No. 12 and No. 8 rounds and a 1” wide flat.
􀂃Watercolor paints – Any red, blue, and yellow will work. Other colors can be mixed from these three. Good pigments would be Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Yellow Light or New Gamboge, and Ultramarine Blue or French Ultramarine. Additional pigments I use for architectural subjects and landscapes are Burnt Sienna and either Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre.
􀂃Small plastic palette or just a white plastic, China, or Styrofoam dinner plate. (But not your grandmother’s good China!) This is for mixing the paint with water.
􀂃A rigid board slightly larger than the watercolor paper and masking tape to fasten the watercolor paper to the board. This will help to minimize paper buckling when wet. Foam Core board, card board, or stiff matt board works well.
􀂃Small plastic water container, like a Cool Whip bowl or small Tupperware container.
􀂃Soft “facial” tissues (no lotion) and paper towels.

All of these supplies are available at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, Aaron Brothers, Jo Ann’s, and other local crafts shops.
The workshop is very informal. Wear comfortable clothes and bring personal refreshments and snacks as desired. Visitors and non-painters welcome.

Lisa Reed Bio

Lisa Reed – Founder Mecca on Main and Watercolor Artist

MECCA ON MAIN is my vision, a way of following my passions and giving other Artists a way to expand upon theirs. MECCA is a place where artists of all kinds have studio space in which to create and sell their art. After many years in sales, I left the corporate world as a National Sales Director and decided to follow my heart by pursuing my livelihood doing all the creative things I love to do. I am drawing on my entrepreneurial experience launching and running retail stores and founding a successful residential interior design business plus several years in the wholesale gift industry. I always loved helping Store owners develop and grow their business while I was representing the first and largest showroom in the Dallas World Trade Center. Merchandising, design and marketing have always been a creative way for me to solve problems in the retail environment and I am able to put those skills to work at Mecca.

MECCA offers classes of all kinds taught by the many talented artists in North Texas. Our unique historical building is also available for use by other clubs, organizations and private functions, making this a cozy gathering place in the middle of Aubrey, Texas.
In addition to creating MECCA ON MAIN for other artists, I will also be selling my own ink and wash watercolor sketches. I love to draw every day things I see as well as contracting to do House Portraits. With gratitude, I share my journey and MECCA ON MAIN with you
